Tell us a bit about your capsule collection with Otto Studio. Why did you choose the patterns? What was your inspiration behind these patterns?
I wanted a collection that captured multiple aspects of culture in the African diaspora. From Ankara fabric inspired wallpaper, to hair tools, and food.
This is your second collection with Otto Studio. Tell us what you learned from the first collection and what you wanted to achieve with your second collection?
I learned that there was a big market for artwork that extended out of a canvas. People were very proud to show me how my designs transformed their space. With my diverse new collection, my goal is to extend art outside of homes into hair salons, restaurants, and hotels.
How does it feel seeing people respond to your art via a wallpaper collection? We’ve seen 100s of people post about your wallpaper collection.
It is so surreal. My favorite part is when people walk into someone’s home and can instantly recognize that it is my work.
What are some projects you’re currently working on right now that are inspiring you?
I am working on my first international solo exhibition in Lagos, Nigeria. I am turning my patterns into fabric where the Lagos audience will have a chance to create clothing and attend my exhibition for an immersive experience.
